Microchipping

We provide permanent microchip identification for all of our adult dogs and now as of April 2009 can offer it to you for your puppy. If you choose to let us microchip your pup. Your new puppy will come already fitted with a tiny harmless microchip that will stay safely in place for life, offering protection from loss, theft or separation due to natural or personal disaster.

The microchip number is unique and belongs only to your puppy. You and your puppy will be enrolled in the largest private 24 hour pet recovery network in the United States. We will help handle the entire process! We can even include your veterinarian’s information and an alternate contact of choice.

Shelters, vets, and rescue teams scan for microchips. If ever lost, your puppy can find his way home to you when his number is scanned and PETtrac is alerted. Operators are standing by 24 hours a day to help reunite you and your pet. PETtrac manages over 1000 calls each day and has helped thousands of lost pets get back home.

The following is information is to help you better understand about the chip.

One of every three pets will become lost in their lifetime. Any puppy or kitten should be micro-chipped to protect it against loss, theft or separation from its owner. The chip must be activated by the new owner so that the pet will get home FAST, if lost. (We help you activate the chip. We send you home with it pre registered.)

It is essential that the owner of the pet activate the pet's chip by registering with the appropriate 24 hour Recovery Center. If the owner does not register - and the pet is lost - the recovery center will not be able to reunite pet and owner. Today millions of pets are micro-chipped, so a microchip alone is no longer enough to insure a safe return. However, if the owner has activated the chip by providing contact information, the pet will be returned to his owner almost immediately.

The microchip has no power supply, battery, or moving parts. It is designed with an operating life of over 25 years and is guaranteed for the life of the animal. Once injected, the microchip is anchored in place as a thin layer of connective tissue forms around it. The chip requires no care. It does not pass through or out of the body.

A special scanner sends a harmless radio signal to the tiny microchip that has been implanted under the skin of the pet.

Although the microchip needle is larger than a typical vaccine needle, animals do not over react to it. Anesthesia is not required or recommended.

The information is good in our system for the life of the pet. You will need to call them to update it when you move or change owner. There is only the one time fee to register the pet in your name, not every year like other company's. Most vets charge $40-$60 to chip your pet with the registration and taxes being extra.
